About the Cache Valley Interfaith Open House Event
This event was created a few years ago when we saw a need in the community to connect better as neighbors and people of faith.
Sometimes, we may be hesitant to discuss others' beliefs or share our own with them. Our hesitancy might stem from a desire not to offend anyone, or we may feel uncomfortable asking questions because we don’t understand their beliefs, structures, or terminology. When we enable the community to learn about the basics of various religious beliefs, we allow them to be more comfortable engaging in conversations with friends and neighbors about faith in ways that foster understanding and friendship. There are many divisions today, but everyone’s values, thoughts, and beliefs should be respected.
Promoting religious liberty benefits the entire community, including those who don’t associate with a faith. Individuals who engage with religion have greater resiliency during challenges, have stronger support networks, and have an overall greater life happiness. Research has also shown that religious individuals tend to give more to their community through volunteer work, monetary donations, and civic engagement.
Further, religious leaders can motivate the community to do good more than secular leaders. Religious teachings also benefit the community by instilling civic norms and democratic values, such as tolerance and respect. In our community, like many others, religious groups offer programs that benefit community members.
